The blessing I’m experiencing and want you to receive is to prosper with the one you love, escape the wage slave world and live the life you really want rather than settling.
About 3 years ago, my wife, and business partner, surged into my life like a Tsunami. Two weeks after we met we were compelled to propose to each other. A month later we were married and already starting our first business together. We’re from different cultures, generations and personality types and yet something about the combination of our energies and the disciplines I want to share with you, radically shifted our lives so that today we are prosperous, work and play when and where we want, travel when and where we want, are debt free, continuously create new revenue streams testing how each project enhances our lifestyle and creates value for others, and we continue to step farther and deeper into love and the adventure of living.
We were both “successful” before we met but I was working 24/7 in my business. She had burned herself out being a hotshot corporate marketing executive. Today we make more than twice what we were making as “suits” and do it as we travel the world working with people we respect and enjoy. Most importantly, we have the energy to stay fit and invest the quality time it takes to nurture our relationship… And yes, we love cooking healthy and delicious food together, and we always have time for it.
It hasn’t been without challenges. I (Jan) had to:
- Admit there’s a lot I don’t know;
- Let go of [the illusion of] being in control;
- Become a “grown-assed man” and not ruled by my feelings and wounds;
- Overcome counter-culture attitudes I had about sales and marketing being the works of the devil;
- Dismantle limitations in my “stinkin’ thinkin’”.
Here’s how Olga describes her learning…
“There are three secrets to working well with others for me:
- The first secret is to have patience.
- The second is to be patient.
- And the third, and most important secret is, patience.
They say “It isn’t that they can’t see the solution, it’s that they can’t see the problem.”
Defining and taking action for me was always easy. Why it wasn’t as easy for others was a mystery for a long time. But, mystery can be demystified – it just needed that other thing, patience. ;-)”
We have lots of tactical advice in our program and videos, but I want to finish here with the most important Couple’s Business rules. They’re as easy as 1,2,3:
- Stay conscious of the fact that everything your partner says or does is an act of love or a request for your love regardless of what else any feelings or thoughts you are having are telling you.
- It’s your responsibility to do your work to make yourself happy and productive so the relationship and business keeps creating value. It’s a no blame game, and it’s no one’s responsibility but yours.
- Love your partner unconditionally, just as they are. See what happens if you love at least one person (other than Mom) completely before you die. It’s only easy to love someone else more than yourself, if you really love them.
Pin these three points up on the wall in your workspace (bedroom? 😉 ) and use them to keep your business and marriage producing the best ROI possible.
